Do Not Close Shop

Too many times before, all burnt out small business owners, woke up one morning with the worse idea about their lifetime achievement. "I am done with impatient people shouting at my face for 35 years. I am done fixing these old machines - night and day. Now, I want to go out there, free like a bird, spending quality times with my grandchildren before checking out this planet. I am going to close shop and walk away without looking back." If a business broker found himself/herself facing a lost case, there is obviously nothing one can do in a losing situation. However, that morning may be a business broker's promising, coincidental moment to grab an opportunity. The burnt out small business owner may not have realized how much s(he) was going to leave at the table with the shouting customers, the fully depreciated machines and the demanding grandchildren. If s(he) chooses to listen for a short while, the business broker's persuasive voice will lead him/her to keep shop open for three to six months or a little longer. Instead of planning to spend time with the grandchildren while holding lines to get discounts at the groceries stores, s(he) will be swiping his/her debit card fully loaded from assets sale of his/her lifetime achievement. Now, the grandchildren are going to truly have fun. The business broker will collect some preliminary information with a few years of financial statements from the accountant. Within a few days, a business valuation will be done to the satisfaction of the burnt out business owner. They signed nondisclosure and a listing agreements to seamlessly invite qualified buyers on board. The key employee assures s(he) will stay. All other employees joined the new owner at a reasonably short period of time to continue the journey. The burnt out business owner pays a fairly negotiated commission to the business broker. And so s(he) goes off like a bird spending truly quality time with the grandchildren. Job well done business broker. Job well done!
